This OER “The Threat of Invasive Species – An Awareness Campaign” presents a dynamic educational initiative created by Project Wild FF, a school conservation project coordinated by Teresa Jardim de Freitas. Focused on the pressing issue of invasive alien species in the Madeira archipelago, this campaign raises awareness about the ecological threats these species pose to the region’s unique biodiversity.
Designed with a strong link to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the campaign aims to make a meaningful impact not only within the school setting but also throughout the broader community. Its multidisciplinary programme integrates awareness events, outdoor sessions, Action Service learning, as well as creative, artistic, and digital technology activities.
This flexible framework allows for cross-curricular connections and supports innovative teaching across multiple subjects. Furthermore, the campaign aligns closely with the cross-cutting issues of Democratic Education and Education for Sustainable Development, embedding active citizenship and environmental responsibility into daily learning.
As part of the campaign, an expert panel discussion was also held and is available in the additional materials.
The video was recorded on January 31, 2024.
